National Science Day: Celebrating the Spirit of Discovery
"A very pleasant morning to our respected Principal, our dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and my fellow inquisitive minds!
We have gathered here today to celebrate National Science Day, a day that honors the power of curiosity and the triumph of the human intellect. Before we begin our journey into the world of wonders, let us start with a tradition that symbolizes the removal of ignorance and the spread of knowledge.
I humbly invite our Chief Guest and Principal to the stage for the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. As the flame glows, let us pray for guidance and wisdom to lead us through this day of learning."
(Pause for the ceremony and prayer)To set the mood, I’ve written a short poem for all of you:
In search of secrets that we do not know.
From ocean depths to stars that shine so bright,
Science turns the darkness into blinding light."
"Why do we celebrate today, the 28th of February? This date marks the incredible anniversary of the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' in 1928 by the legendary Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman.
Sir CV Raman’s research into how light scatters when it passes through matter was so groundbreaking that he became the first Indian and first Asian to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. He proved that a scientist doesn’t need millions of dollars—he famously made his discovery using equipment that cost only 200 rupees! To honor this legacy, our nation has dedicated this day to science since 1987."
"Science is not just a subject we study for exams; it is the rhythm of our daily lives. It is in the smartphones that connect us, the medicine that heals us, and even the simple food we eat.
Did you know that science tells us things we might never guess? For instance, while we think of forests as our only lungs, about 50% to 80% of Earth’s oxygen is actually produced by tiny organisms in our oceans! Even our bodies are small laboratories—your stomach acid is powerful enough to dissolve a metal blade! From the slight radioactivity in a common banana to the way animals use the Earth’s magnetic fields to navigate, science is everywhere."
"India has a glorious history of innovation, from the ancient math of Aryabhatta and Brahmagupta to our modern journeys to the Moon.
Today, we are moving forward at light speed. India now ranks 39th in the Global Innovation Index. We are building 33 supercomputers across the country and creating our own AI models like BharatGen to speak our many local languages. Whether it is space exploration or digital transformation, the world is looking at Indian science with respect."
"The theme for National Science Day 2025 is 'Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat.'
To my friends here: Science is not about memorizing facts; it is a way of thinking. It is about asking 'How?' and 'Why?' about the world around you. Never stop being curious. Every experiment you do and every question you ask is a step toward becoming the architect of tomorrow’s innovations."
Here are a few slogans for us to live by today:
- 1. 'Question every fact, let science guide your act!'
- 2. 'From a small seed of doubt, let a big discovery sprout!'
"A textbook gives you the path, but curiosity gives you the destination."
"As we move toward our science exhibition and activities, let’s keep our minds open to new ideas.
Finally, I would like to offer a sincere Vote of Thanks. Thank you to our esteemed Chief Guest for your inspiring words. We are grateful to our Principal and the entire science department for their hard work in organizing this celebration. A huge thank you to all the parents and students for making this day so vibrant with your energy.
May we all carry a piece of this wonder back home with us. Happy National Science Day! Keep questioning and keep discovering!"
