Why do we celebrate today, the 28th of February? This date marks a historic milestone for our nation. In 1928, on this very day, the legendary Indian physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman announced his groundbreaking discovery known as the ‘Raman Effect’.
Anchor 1:This discovery was so significant that it earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Asian to receive such an honor in the field of science. To commemorate this achievement and foster a scientific spirit, the Government of India designated this day as National Science Day in 1986.
Many think science belongs only in a laboratory, but it is actually the heartbeat of our daily routines. From the smartphones in our pockets to the life-saving medicines that heal us, science is everywhere.
Anchor 1:Did you know that science even explains the air we breathe? While we often thank trees for oxygen, researchers estimate that 50% to 80% of Earth’s oxygen is actually produced by oceanic organisms like plankton and algae.

This year’s theme—"Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat"—reminds us that the future is in our hands.
